Porter speaking at Cili’s at NRMC Meeting on July 1st
We have been coordinating many months with Porter’s staff to match the Congressional calendar with our
Men’s Club meeting dates. Come with your questions and suggestions. Jon Porter is better each time we hear him.
Issues To Watch
Capital is fleeing the U.S. as imports exceed exports year after year, and the balance of payments
is against our economy. We can all help: buy Made in USA by US owners to keep the jobs and profits
here. Major Defense systems (e.g. tanker aircraft) should be acquired in the U.S. thereby guaranteeing
quality technical support for the 40-year life span of these systems. Billions of dollars and 19,000
jobs are at stake. The Buy American Act was intended to protect our economy, preserve our technical
superiority, and provide the troops with the best equipment. What happened? The Act that I helped
implement for 22 years as a DoD Contracting Officer has been effectively pushed aside. Develop
alternative sources of energy and crude oil. Technical innovations make possible environmentally
safe and clean refineries, power plants, etc. We do not need “cap and trade” legislation to wreck
the economy, cause jobs to flee the U.S., and indirectly cause the greatest tax in history and largest
transfer of wealth to government.
NRMC Member to RNC
Jeff McGowan has been hired by the Republican National Committee as a Coordinator for the Victory
Program. Jeff departs June 21st for Washington, D.C. for duty through the November 2008 election.
Jeff graduated from Cheyenne High School in 2007 and joined the Nevada Republican Men’s Club at
that time. However, Jeff’s community service and political volunteering began years before.
Beginning in 2004, GOP activities and causes found Jeff working hard: walking precincts, organizing
telephone banks, stuffing/mailing literature and invitations. He helped organize and stage special
events including GOP barbecues and GOP participation in San Gennaro festivals. I have personally
observed Jeff leadership skills in motivating other young people to volunteer and help in these
essential activities these past four years. He is truly a remarkable young man. Jeff’s father,
David McGowan, sets the example by doing a great job as Clark County Republican Party Political Director.
Remembrance
Long time NRMC member Lt. Col. Roosevelt “Rosie” Harrelle, US Marine Corps (Ret.), passed away June 5, 2008
and was honored at the Veteran’s National Cemetery in Boulder City. Lt. Col. Harrelle served in the China,
Burma and India theatres and later at Marine Corps Headquarters in Washington D.C. He is remembered for
years of volunteer service assisting veterans in Nevada and working on political issues.
Many of our NRMC members are candidates for public office. Many others are working to register voters and
help election campaigns. Keep up the great work.
