President's Message by Dr. Chris Comfort Published October 2007 Incredible! That is our word to describe the success that we have as the Nevada Republican Men’s Club of Nevada. The interest and growth in our group is unprecedented. Thank you for your referrals and let me know please, if there is anything else that the board or I can do for you. It is Oktoberfest and welcome to the Hofbrauhaus! Here is a novel idea for us Republicans to ponder. One way to end the war is to engage in a systematic and purposeful action of sacrifice. The problem is that many of us do not know how! There is a gap in the fund of knowledge, or know how in winning. The challenge of leadership on all levels requires our party to come together, step up if you will, and forget our selves for the moment. Many of our citizenry is whining and complaining about the war, the death, the horrific inevitable consequences to such an action, but take for a moment this answer, the truth, to this question: how many of us are willing to sacrifice something to bring about victory? Even though I, personally, have not fought in any battlefield overseas, I played a role in my profession as a first line responder to dental trauma and suffering; the result of which was from fights, gunshots, vehicular, bicycle and skating accidents, sail boarding, stupidity etc. I gave 16 years of my life to answering the phones 24/7 in order to alleviate the suffering of my fellow human beings…and at some times, gratis. My sacrifice was toward my community, a solder’s sacrifice is toward his country, the embodiment of our sacrifice as a nation should be to make a difference in the war effort…how about a tax deduction on an IRS form? What is your sacrifice? Three score ago, our grandparents gave up many of life’s necessities in order to defeat the Axis powers. What have we given up? Hmmm…not much. I think the way that we handle our war budget as a nation; that is, to print more money is wrong. I wonder with some concern what will happen to the economy when the war is over…what sacrifice then, higher deficits, joblessness, what? I suppose in the end it is a question of lesser-ship, you read that correctly. Not leadership as we know it, but the unending and relentless problems associated with societal procrastination and myopic economic policy; and an inability to bring about a consensus toward change and improvement. Ostensibly, congress does not have a clue. The lesson here is that capitalism at times can be heartless, and democracy when handled incorrectly, in the absence of morality, can be ugly; the two together makes for an interesting morass. This harbinger of truth has been the mantra of moderate to conservative Republicans. We recognize that the incessant whining of those who criticize the war, the office of the President, and the rest on the beltway…the politically incorrect operatives of the Democrats, require a change in plan. We, the Republicans of Nevada, challenge ourselves and our nation to step up and make the sacrifices that say; let us win this battle against evil, against terrorism. I will not mention the H.R. name, but where is your leadership? You represent all of Nevada? You have been misguided, and wrong in your lack of engagement and sacrifice. Land deals alone will not make you great; knowledge will. We challenge you to not embarrass our country any longer and show us how you will end this war through constructive engagement and sacrifice. We are asking you to deliver more than pork, more than empty rhetoric, we are asking you to join Ensign, Porter, and Heller in support of the President through an active, participatory engagement. Well, I shall always call it like it is and speak the truth…diplomatically, yes at times. But not today. We want to win in Iraq, everyone of us in the US. We do not want to loose this war because it means adding to the world’s perception of our eventual demise and invalidity of our nation’s premise. Where is our national pride? We are willing to step up and support this war through our sacrifice. We demand as your citizenry that you support the President and guide us through effective leadership for us all to sacrifice, to engage in victory. We must see, feel, and experience this war. It is an actual conflict of a radical ideology with some estimated 20-30mm followers and willing participants. It is not a play toy for political fodder. We are a nation of 300mm dedicated toward liberty, life, and the pursuit of our dreams. We demand that you back our President, engage in successful consensus building and stop splitting our house, and our Senate. Here are some ideas for all of us: Send discretionary dollars to the DOD, drive less, turn off the TV and think about novel solutions or contributions that you are able to make, support your disabled and suffering veterans, be present for them when they return home, send your extra bullets to a Federal clearing-house or police departments, stop committing crimes, send care packages, send e-mails to the soldiers telling them how proud you are of them that they are making the world safer. Perhaps attending church and praying. If you bloody the bully’s nose, and he keeps coming back at you; hit the bastard again. Then, say a prayer for him. |
